Are the trucks and crews actually yours?
Yes. There’s no subcontracting in the mix — the trucks, the crew, and the operating authority all live under one roof. Run by the Nava brothers, Nava Bros Moving is a family household-goods mover based in Oakley, CA, licensed and insured statewide. Our California intrastate authority on file is CPUC Cal-T No. 0192284, and interstate jobs move under live USDOT authority with MC authority. Here’s what that means for you: every truck in the yard is titled to us, the East County movers loading it are on our W-2 payroll, and no part of your move ever gets quietly farmed out to a sub or to day-labor.
What will my move cost?
There’s no meter running here — a local move is quoted as one flat rate for the entire job, and it doesn’t budge whether the couch has to come down a tight Summer Lake stairwell or the truck has to squeeze a narrow Brentwood cul-de-sac. The East Bay is a costlier market, so our numbers land a step above the national average: where an hourly rate suits the job, figure on about $145 an hour for a two-mover team; a two-bedroom apartment or condo usually runs somewhere between $550 and $1,400, and a three- or four-bedroom house sits above that. Once Hector has walked the rooms in person or looked things over on a video tour, the full flat rate is written down — the gate and HOA access, the COI, and any storage that bridges a sale and a closing all built in.
How far ahead should I book?
Some dates fill up well before the rest — the end-of-month closings, the start-of-month lease turns, and the long summer run — so try to lock your date in roughly two weeks out, and give it a little more room from June through September, when it feels like half of East County is loading a truck at the same time. Once the hot-market rush eases, the calendar loosens up and a few days’ notice is often plenty; there’s no snow to dig out of here, so even a midwinter booking goes off right on schedule. Catch us in a slower week with a crew open and a same-week request usually still finds a slot.
Any move you won’t take?
We work across the whole of Oakley and East Contra Costa County — Summer Lake and Brentwood, Antioch and Discovery Bay, Walnut Creek, the Bay high-rises, and the towns ringing the Delta — and we run the long lanes too, down to Southern California, out to Las Vegas, and north toward Sacramento and beyond. The heavy, awkward stuff is bread-and-butter for us. Bring out the padded boards and the stair rollers, put a trained crew with the proper gear behind them, and an upright, a baby grand, or a gun safe comes down the stairs the way it should — this is skilled work, never a weekend favor between neighbors. Insured? Can you file a COI?
Insured on every job — and the Certificate of Insurance is the exact step where the cut-rate outfits come up short. Every move carries $1M in cargo liability, and beyond that, full-value protection can be layered on at roughly 1–3% of the value you declare. Our crews are covered by general liability and workers’ comp, and bonded on top of that. Any time a Bay tower, an HOA board, or a building management office asks for a COI before the dock or the freight elevator opens, Marisol gets it filed with management well inside whatever deadline they set.
Do I have to be there?
It helps to have you there for both ends — the load-out and the drop-off — since a Bay high-rise or a gated-community front desk usually wants someone to sign in at the dock. But if the day slips away from you, leaving the keys with a relative or a neighbor you trust works perfectly well. Whoever stands in, the crew tags every item on the way up the ramp and checks each one back off that same list as it comes through the door at the other end.
Any fee to reschedule?
Give us 48 hours’ notice or more on a cancellation and you owe nothing — that’s the entire policy. Moving the job to a different day is free as well, provided a crew is open on the new date. Worth remembering, though: month-end closings, lease turns, and summer dates go fast all over East County, so the sooner you raise a change, the better your odds of keeping the window your plans were built around.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Pay whichever way suits you — we take Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Discover, and debit, a certified check, or cash all work just as well. Reserving your spot on the calendar costs nothing up front. You settle the balance at delivery and only then, after you’ve walked the load and signed off — never a moment before.
What if something is damaged?
Baseline released-value coverage of $0.60/lb is built into every job at no extra cost. Notice something off? Point it out to the crew chief before the truck pulls away and it’s logged onto that day’s inventory right then — and most claims wrap up well inside the roughly nine-month window we leave open. Handing us a family heirloom, a piano, or something you couldn’t stand to lose? Layer on full-value protection at about 1–3% of the value you declare, and that piece rides with a good deal more cushion behind it.
